School Council Selevino Writing Competition

School Council have been very busy in this week judging their recent Selevino writing competition. School Council challenged children to write to Selevino about themselves and their class. Children were encouraged to think about what made their class special, interesting facts about themselves, and to illustrate their entries. School Council were delighted with the great number of entries and had the difficult task of picking a winner from each class. The winning entries were posted to Selevino in Mozambique to tell him more about our school, and the competition winners were awarded special prizes by School Council in our Friday Awards Assembly!

African Themed Afternoon

At the end of the Spring term School Council organised an African themed afternoon to help children learn more about the continent of Africa and the country where Selevino lives, Mozambique. We sponsor Selevino through World Vision to give him access to education and the children enjoy receiving regular updates via post and video about his life there. During the School Council event Key Stage 2 were visited by the Telford African and Afro-Caribbean Resource Centre, who ran workshops for the children on African culture, whilst Key Stage 1 and EYFS enjoyed art, music, dance and geography activities. Mrs Perri also prepared some delicious exotic fruits for us to try at lunchtime. The afternoon was really successful and the School Council did a fantastic job of organising everything!

Raising the Profile of Selevino

At Mount Pleasant Primary School we sponsor a pupil who attends school in Mozambique, Africa through World Vision. His name is Selevino. School Council are working to raise the profile of Selevino in school. This poster gives you more information about him.

The School Council have joined with the Eco Council to create some posters and a video to remind the whole school to keep our school clean and tidy.
Children have enjoyed sharing their classes suggestions this week. Lots of great ideas!
Some of our KS2 School Council Reps met with Mr Bartlett – Shropshire Council Crime Prevention Officer and Councillor Jeff Anderson.

Our pupils wanted to find out more about what local government does. They asked some great questions, such as ‘What does Shropshire Council do?’ and ‘What are the biggest problems for the council at the moment?’

They found out LOTS of information which we’ll share in assembly on Monday. Well done everyone.
