Art and Design in EYFS

Within the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is followed.

Physical Development Use a range of materials creatively to design and make products. Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.

Art is referred to as ‘Expressive Arts and Design’ in EYFS. These statements taken from the Early Learning Goals will scaffold the children’s Art and Design skills before they move into KS1

  • Explore, use and refine a variety of artistic effects to express their ideas and feelings.
  • Return to and build on their previous learning, refining ideas and developing their ability to represent them.
  • Create collaboratively, sharing ideas, resources and skills.

Arts and Creativity Week 2023

‘The Lost Words’

All children took part in an Arts and Creativity Week with the help of Sarah Corkhill and Anna M. Our Arts week was inspired by the book ‘The Lost Words’, our surrounding nature and the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy. All classes created a range of fantastic art-work which was displayed in our very own exhibition!
